Letter to Breonna

Dear Breonna Taylor,

I didn't even know you but I grieve you. Why did your life have to end in this way? I am sorry that the system that was supposed to protect you killed you. I am sorry that even after the many investigations you still did not get justice. I am sorry that your neighbor's walls received justice before you did. Bre, I didn't know you, but my heart is mourning as if I did. I am sorry that some people still don't get it. I am sorry that after this happened to you that they made you the "person of interest" and not the victim. I am sorry that your dreams of becoming a nurse ended early. I am sorry that you never got to marry the love of your life. I am sorry that you never got to experience childbirth. I am sorry that you never got a chance to have those 5 kids you wanted. I am sorry that you never got to hold that baby girl whose name you already had picked out. Dear Bre, I am sorry. I feel like a piece of every black woman died with you that day. Breonna, I see that you saw the good in people when everyone else saw the bad. I am sorry that your mother can no longer hear you laugh. Breonna we won't ever stop saying your name. The Breonna Taylor law is just the beginning. We won't stop fighting until we are all equal. Breonna, it's been 194 days since your departure here on Earth, but you have lit a fire that no man can put out. I am sorry that Kenny has to live life without you. I am sorry that the attorney general feels there's not enough evidence. Bre, I am so sorry. I wish that I never had to hear your name. I wish that I never had to know your story, but now that I do I will make sure my daughter does too. I am sorry that sleeping in your bed was not a safe enough space. Bre, I AM SORRY!!! YOUR LIFE MATTERED!!!!!
