Mayson, " I won, I won yay!!" Melody, "I loss, I loss yay!!" They both screamed after playing a game on the PS4. I turned around and laughed. Melody was fully aware that she did not win the current round of "Just Dance", but she celebrated anyway. I thought to myself I must adopt this mentality. I mean children are the real geniuses anyway right? What if by some crazy chance I started cheering for myself when I loss? What would happen? There is something special about losses. When you lose you have the opportunity to learn from that experience go back and be better, do better.
When you win, things don't become as special as they were that first win. Tom Brady has been to the Superbowl 10 times now. One of his teammates was emotional and he told them it wasn't that serious. Like Brady, when we have a lot of wins in life we forget that hunger we once had. We forget all the hard work it took us to get to the place we now take for granted. If Brady had remembered that very first Super Bowl experience and how special it was, he probably never would've told his teammate that. What if when we lose we cheered just so that we can keep that hunger just a little longer. We learn to embrace the hunger and the loss.
So next time you face something that seems like a loss, think of my sweet Melody, and cheer just as loud as if you won! "Yay, I loss!!"
One Love,
D'Que
